Spendsnap - AI-powered expense management app
Campfire Digital designed and built Spendsnap, an AI-powered expense management app that uses Google Cloud Document AI with a custom trained ML model to automatically extract data from invoices and receipts - including micro VAT amounts. Integrated with Dolibarr ERP. Project currently in Alpha, not publicly available.
The app
Receipt scanning and automatic data extraction
Spendsnap allows employees to photograph their expense receipts from their smartphone. A custom ML model, trained on Google Cloud Document AI, automatically extracts all relevant data: total amount, date, supplier, expense category - and crucially the micro VAT amounts broken down by rate. This data is then synchronised with the company's accounting system.

Micro VAT amounts that add up
One of Spendsnap's key strengths is its ability to identify and isolate micro VAT amounts on each receipt - often overlooked in manual processes. Across large teams and over time, these amounts represent significant sums recoverable by the company. The system automatically breaks down VAT by rate (5.5%, 10%, 20%) and generates the reports needed for declaration.

A custom trained ML model
Unlike generic OCR solutions, Spendsnap uses a custom ML model trained on Google Cloud Document AI. This model has been specifically optimised for recognising French accounting documents - invoices, receipts, expense notes - with a much higher extraction accuracy than standard solutions.
