Geo History - Interactive history and geography web app
Campfire Digital designed and built Geo History, a progressive web app commissioned by YouTuber Geo History and his 2 million subscribers worldwide. The app features an interactive world timeline to explore historical events via embedded YouTube videos, a suite of educational geography games with a global leaderboard, and a Discord integration with an AI-powered bot.
The timeline
Exploring world history through video
The Geo History app features an interactive world timeline allowing users to navigate through historical events and subjects from across the globe. Each event is linked to a Geo History YouTube video that plays directly within the app. All content is managed from a bespoke backoffice allowing the YouTuber to add new events, categories and themes independently - they appear automatically in the app.
The games
A suite of educational games with global leaderboard
Geo History features a suite of geography and history games: name all the countries of the world within a time limit and watch them appear on the map, identify as many flags as possible in one minute, find the 10 largest empires in history... The backoffice allows the client to add as many game variants and themes as they wish - they appear automatically in the app. Each user selects their country and can compete with others via a per-game and global leaderboard - a true World Cup of players.
Discord bot
A community powered by AI
To strengthen the community aspect, Campfire Digital built a Discord integration with a generative AI-powered bot. Every day, the bot automatically publishes excerpts from the app's content, the latest leaderboard with AI-generated humorous commentary, and individual high scores - creating engagement and friendly competition within the subscriber community.
Design
A retro 90s theme at the client's request
The app's design deliberately reflects a retro 90s aesthetic - school notebook style, period typography and a palette reminiscent of school textbooks. This strong visual direction, requested by the client, mirrors the visual universe of his YouTube channel which has attracted 2 million subscribers around this instantly recognisable style.
